PROFILE

Manganese mine

With its subsidiary Comilog, the Manganese division is the world’s second-largest producer of high-grade manganese ore, thanks to the Moanda deposit (Gabon).

Production capacity has been increased from 2 million tonnes to 3.5 million tonnes in 2008. production was of 3.25 million tonnes in 2008.

ERAMET Comilog Manganèse is currently the world's 2nd-largest producer of manganese alloys for steelmaking, with the most extensive product range on the market and plants in Europe, North America and China.

COMILOG : First Stone Laid at Moanda Metallurgical Complex.

April 7th, 2009 : The first stone was laid at the future Metallurgical Complex of COMILOG, a 67%-held ERAMET subsidiary based in Moanda (Gabon). The project consists of a silicomanganese plant with 65,000 ton annual capacity and a 20,000 ton per year manganese metal plant. The Complex will benefit from the Gabonese government's development of a new hydroelectric plant as part of the upgrading of the national electricity grid. Capital expenditure for the Moanda Metallurgical Complex will total €200 million, spread over the 2009-2013 period ; if all the required conditions are met.

Chongzuo Plant (China)

The branch is also the first global producer of manganese bases chemical products. These are intended for very varied uses, such as batteries, ferrites, fertilizers, animal food.

Eramet Manganese started up a new Chinese plant at Chongzuo, in January 2007, for production of electrolytic manganese dioxide for Chinese manufacturers of alkaline batteries. The capacity of this plant has recently been doubled.

The branch has a network of 19 industrial sites on four continents (Africa, Asia, Europe, America).

The “Transgabon” railway

In november 2005, COMILOG has obtained the concession for the "Transgabon" railway

This concession is signed for a period of 30 years, which is strategic for the group, since it allows it to secure the transportation of ore between the mine at Moanda and the port of Owendo, thus guaranteeing the ramp-up of manganese ore production to 3.5 million tonnes a year.

Gulf Chemicals Plant (USA)

ERAMET Comilog Manganese is through its North Americal subsidiary GCMC, the world leader in recycling of petroleum catalysts.
