To produce the petrol we all need, oil refineries use catalysts. Eramet is the world’s biggest recycler of these catalysts with its subsidiary GCMC (USA), and is therefore also helping to protect the environment.

Alloys give them wings

Wings are firmly attached to the fuselage of airplanes, thanks to aluminium alloy parts forged in France by Aubert & Duval on the most powerful closed-die forging press in the western world. Aubert & Duval also produces other key parts, such as those used to attach jet engines to aircraft wings.

Nickel in our purses

Coins

Nickel allows coins to keep their shine and embossment over time. It is present in alloy form in 1- and 2-euro coins, and was used in its pure form in the old 1-franc coins.

Purer air, thanks to nickel

PSA PEUGEOT CITROEN

The car and the environment can be reconciled, thanks to rechargeable nickel batteries used in electric and hybrid vehicle.

Batteries last longer thanks to manganese

Alkaline batteries

Alkaline batteries last longer than conventional batteries. Their secret ingredient: manganese. Eramet is a global frontrank maker of EMD, the manganese-based component inside alkaline batteries.

Particle filter
PSA PEUGEOT CITROEN

The car and the environment can be reconciled, thanks to catalytic converters, which filter particle emissions. Nickel stainless steels are used in the hottest part of the catalytic converter. Eramet is the world's leading producer of ferronickel, which is used exclusively by stainless steel manufacturers.

A good vintage, thanks to nickel !

Bottles of wine

In viticulture, stainless steel tanks are increasingly used to store wine. Stainless steel, which has a nickel content of about 9%, is the ideal material, because it is hygienic and resists corrosion. It is the material of choice for safe of food and drinks processing.

There would be no jet engines without nickel

Aircraft engines are made using increasingly sophisticated metallurgical alloys, or superalloys, with nickel content of more than 45%, which retain a high performance even at very high temperatures. Aeronautics manufacturers require high-purity nickel, such as that produced in France by Eramet in its Le Havre-Sandouville refinery.
